DHT (Driftwood Holding Trust) Angus cattle
Our
goal is to have bulls and females in the top 5% of the Black Angus breed for the
major traits related to performance, maternal and carcass EPD’s . We have
purchased cows, bulls and embryos from some of the top herds in USA. We started
by purchasing pairs with heifer calves from a breeder who had used AI on 97% of
his herd for the last 40 years. That same breeder has been in the Angus business
for over 54 years. We followed up by purchasing embryos from a world renowned
herd. SAV has claim to some of the top breeding in the Angus business. SAV has
been in the Angus business 68 years.
We have taken the best of this
selection and established our embryo program. We pay strong attention to
maternal traits, udder quality, fertility and fleshing ability in our cow herd,
paralleled with stringent demands on performance.
These top breeders
in the Angus business have sales that top $3,600,000.00 annually.

SS
Objective
Our SS Objective heifer:
Baker’s Blackbird 7170 Reg.
#15862940
The 7170 heifer’s 2008 ranking against 265,915 cows puts her in
the top 2% of the current dams for: $Beef, $Feed lot, WW weaning weight, YW
Yearling weight.
The sire for the embryo flush GAR New Design 5050
ranks in the top 1% to 3% against 23,620 bulls for: $B, $F, $G, $QG, YW, Milk.
We have 2 heifer calves and one bull calf from this flush of 7170 and GAR New
Design 5050. We also flushed 7170’s dam to get full sister to 7170. We now have
5 full sisters to 7170 on the ground and 2 bull calves all out of SS Objective.
Also in the SS Objective group are 2 yearling bull and 3 yearling heifers born
in February, 2009 from our cow herd.
We have a bull and heifer born
February, 2009 from Heritage 6295 and the famous S A V Emblynette 1180 cow.
Full flush brother to our bull sold for $14,500 in the February, 2010 sale and a
flush sister brought $12,000.
This may be our next donor heifer. Her flush
sisters in the SAV 2010 sale had the highest weaning EPD and third highest
yearling EPD in the sale offering. They are explosive growth and performance
heifers with a rich maternal heritage from five generations of Emblynette
Pathfinder dams. Lot 657 is the heaviest weaning heifer of the entire 2009
calf-crop with a 205 day weight of 867 lbs. Lot 656 ranks second of the embryo
crop with a 205 day weight of 842 lbs.
Their fifth
consecutive generation Pathfinder Dam has delivered $117,750 in receipts on 21
direct progeny who have sold in past SAV sales to cowmen in ten states and
Canada. A daughter was selected by Werner Angus as the $36,500 top-selling
heifer in the 2005 SAV Sale.
Wow what a breeding program S A V has. Now
lets look at the flush brothers to our Heritage 6295 bull. Lots 164 and 165 in
the S A V 2010 sale have a 205 day weight of 921 lbs and 867 lbs. Their yearling
weight is 1506 lbs and 1377 lbs. These flush brothers have exceptional
phenotype-size, length, muscle, structural correctness and worlds of style and
character. Their EPD’s for weaning and yearling weight rank in the breed’s top
1%.
A maternal sister, S A V Emblynette 5341 is the #1 weaning EPD
cow in the entire SAV herd and will qualify as a sixth generation
Pathfinder this spring.
The weaning weight leader of 2009 AI and embryo bull group: Goes to our
R-63 cow and
GAR Predestined 13395344AMF-NHF The bull calf was born 2/14/09

DHT (Driftwood Holding Trust) has two bulls from 004 and a SAV cow named
Emblynette 1180 Reg. # 13845263
These bulls where born February 2009.
We are excited about the future of our registered Angus herd and the new calf
crop is better than the last one.
We recently sold a young bull to another breeder who has been in the business
for over 30 years.
We were excited to hear that the top
6 active dams in the breed for $B are all sired by either Objective or
Destination 928 . The 928 bull ranks above the top 1% of current sires for $W,
$B and that group has over 18,800 bull in it.
Since our oldest herd bull is
a son of Destination 928. His name is Baker’s Destination 6137 Reg# 15759233
he has a 74 birth weight, 205 day weight of 905 pounds and yearling weight
of 1484 pounds. His daughters are excellent for phenotype and are some to the
top weight calves in the herd even compared to the embryos from top herds which
we purchased. Needless to say we are very happy with our herd bull 6137.

This bull is form S A V Final Answer 0035
BETTER BULLS = BETTER PERFORMANCE
.
Consider the following
equation: A bull who will add 30 lbs. to the weaning weight of each of his
calves mated to 25 cows per year for 4 years and you sell the calves for $1.00
per pound. 30 X 25 = 750 X 4 = 3000 X 1.00 = $3000.00
This bull
is worth $3000.00 more than the average bull who will keep your weaning weights
the same. Take this formula and put in your own figures and see what you
can afford to pay.
COWMAN FORMULA
X No. of
cows bred to him per year
X No. of years to keep the bull
X Expected selling price of calves
= Additional dollars you can pay for a better bull
This equation
doesn’t consider the increase in the value due to calving ease, higher quality
replacement heifers, yearling growth, feedlot gain and the improved carcass
quality.
