Late this afternoon Kim and I went horseback riding down the cannon and to the top of inspiration point. We just arrived there when a full grown pair of bald eagles sailed just below us then swooped over our heads then crisscrossed the river before disappearing on the Pine Bluff just across the old Osage Indian Bottom. We watched a flock of wild ducks floating in a secluded back water arm of the river, in shadows. We slowly picked our way down the edge on the bluff watching the river for more signs of wildlife but we didn’t see any other movement. Tracks of rabbits, squirrel and deer were all we were sure of. The snow is about 3 or 4 inches deep and the temperature hovered between 32 and 34 degrees. A giant cedar tree decorated with blue cedar berries and iced with clumps of snow and a lone cardinal held us captive as we passed. Gentle breezes let puffs of snow fall from time to time while sun beams reached the few remaining bright red berries scattered in the under brush making them glisten. We rode along silently.
